An odometer reading is the mileage displayed on a vehicle’s dashboard. Comparing readings taken at different times shows how far the vehicle traveled between them.
For example, if the odometer reads 45,000 miles before a trip and 45,025 afterward, the vehicle traveled 25 miles.
Beginning- and end-of-year readings can also help drivers track total annual mileage. A mileage log provides the trip details needed to separate business driving from personal use.
